Have a look at the space I utilized to showcase the stuff that I have selected over the years. 

I got the acrylic modules custom made from a workshop. I use then in such a way that you can create cavities of various sizes and shapes by staking them in several different ways.

Custom made shelves

The shelves that I made helps me to utilize the entire height of the display unit. Otherwise once you display stuff on the floor, the space above goes waste. That is the main reason I got the shelves done.
